Can we expect more than one hundred thousand foldable phone units each from Samsung and LG over the coming year? A number of sources say this is definitely something that is to be expected and that it’s just a matter of when, rather than if. The Korea Herald says that each company could release as many as 100, 000 units over the coming year.
Reports indicate that Samsung has been working on a phone that can be transformed into a seven-inch tablet since August and that they are planning to release this product for their third quarter. Given that the company once worked with fold-in technologies, it makes perfect sense that they would work on such a device.
However, the company is still hesitant over releasing such a product, owing to issues related to marketability and profitability. Furthermore, the company is still dealing with recent disasters concerning the Galaxy Note 7. For now, we can only wait to see what the company decides.
Things are a little different with LG. Experts believe the company is far more likely to release whatever they have been working on since the company has been working with fold-out technologies for at least a few years now. Then again, some believe that the company may in fact use what they have created to create components for some of their ongoing clients. That list currently includes names such as Huawei and Apple.
