Almost everyday, we’re met with news about how blue light from our computers and mobile devices is harmful to us. Since we all spend so much time looking at screens, it makes sense to try to find a way to decrease the amount of damage that is done. An older app named F.lux used to be available for iOS that would change the screen of your computer or device according to the time of the day. This meant that you'd be seeing less blue light. Recently though, Apple shut down F.lux (which is still available for Windows, Linux, and Android) and created their own version of it available for download via update: Apple Night Shift.
Apple's version of F.lux is designed to do much of the same thing - protect your eyes and health by monitoring the screen you're using and adjusting it according to the time of day. It's unfortunate that they took the idea from F.lux and then, after making their own version, made F.lux unavailable, but that is common with Apple. F.lux did have a reputation for being a little buggy when running on iOS, so hopefully Apple will have addressed that in their new program.
Whatever the catalyst, it is nice that Apple is paying attention to health concerns and is working to make its devices user friendly and healthy. We can't wait to see the reception that Apple Night Shift receives.
